BAUMA 2022 (Munich,
Germany), the biggest event in the industry, was held last month
and ended on October 30s. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 restrictions, WEITAI couldn’t make it there. However, we’ve been closely following the news and
updates and prepared a list of highlights of the event.
Despite the
current global situation, more than 495,000 visitors attended BAUMA this year. As
the trade fair managing director, Rummel said, "Personal contact cannot be digitized."
CONSTRUCTION METHODS AND MATERIALS OF TOMORROW
One of the most difficult
challenges the construction industry has been facing recently is the task of
lowering the CO₂ emissions during the cement production process. As one of the
potential solutions to this problem, polysius pure oxyfuel technology was
introduced. The polysius pure oxyfuel process is
a new type of clinker production process in which the otherwise normal ambient
air is replaced by pure oxygen in the kiln combustion process. Compared with
conventional plants, this novel process aims to concentrate, capture and reuse
almost 100% of the CO₂ produced in a cost-effective manner.
3D CONCRETE
PRINTING
Additive manufacturing
or 3D concrete printing drew the attention of industry specialists and
visitors. As Frank Will from the Technical University of Drezden said, the 3D
printing process is capable of using even coarse materials and would significantly
reduce work hours. The visitors could see the prototype of the 3D printer,
which was based on a truck-mounted concrete pump.
THE ROAD TO AUTONOMOUS MACHINES
Following up on the
decarbonization initiative, the specialists say that automation is clearing the
way to net-zero quarries and is enhancing the appeal of the business model. The smaller e-vehicles
were more cost-efficient, produced less dust and noise and generated
dramatically lower CO₂ emissions. They could also use narrower roads in
quarries. However, the
opportunities for autonomous and carbon-neutral solutions are still limited
today. which makes it a challenging goal for the industry players.
MINING-SUSTAINABLE, EFFICIENT AND RELIABLE
The goal of the mining companies must be to create a culture in which employees can also be part of the development
journey. Recently part of the MiC 4.0 working groups succeeded
in developing an open, manufacturer-independent data interface that can be used
to map all relevant use cases for communication between accessory equipment and
construction machinery. The MiC 4.0 BUS simplifies controlling excavator equipment such as buckets, claws and hammers. Additional operating
components and displays that are commonly used today are no longer required.
The new data interface makes it possible to even use complex tools and
equipment through “plug-and-work” — that is, without complicated conversions.

The industry
specialists confirmed their commitment to the zero-emission goal and formulated 4 pillars.

Going
back to the digitalization trend, Charles Bénard from Hiboo said that we cannot
optimize anything if we are unable to measure our current carbon emissions. These
measurements require construction companies to collect and interpret a number
of data from sources that range from machinery manufacturers or telematics. He
also mentioned that the current energy crisis has given a further boost to the customers’
interest in consumption data in particular.
